Bluetooth certification and FCC visit means Fossil Sport sequel is coming very soon

Posted July 3, 2019 | Mobile | News

A Bluetooth certification spotted by Gadgets and Wearables (via TechRadar) seems to indicate that the Fossil Sport 2 smartwatch will soon be here. The certification is dated July 1st and is for a watch made by Fossil. While the name Fossil Sport 2 isn’t explicitly mentioned, the document shows a codename of DW10F1. Considering that the original Fossil Sport is DW9F1, there is a very good chance that the timepiece on the way is the Sport 2.
The Fossil Sport runs Wear OS and is the only smartwatch powered by the Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip, which means that the sequel will probably be packing that as well. The Sport 2 should also be equipped with the same features and technology found on the original watch including an NFC chip for mobile payments, GPS, a heart rate monitor and water resistance down to 101.7 feet. It also will have Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity compared to Bluetooth 4.2 found on the Fossil Sport. It isn’t known what new capabilities the Sport 2 will possess.

Last month, a list of upcoming Fossil smartwatches that visited the FCC circulated, indicating that the company was working on five new devices including the Fossil Sport 2. Besides the latter, other models include a pair from the Michael Kors line (Michael Kors (DW10M1, DW10M2), one from Diesel (DW10D1) and another from Emporio Armani (DW10E1). All will have the same features but will carry different antenna placements and designs.
