Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25262 Heads to the Dev Channel
Microsoft released a new build of Windows 11 to the Windows Insider Program Dev channel today, adding a change to Widgets and some other additions.
Right, it’s not much.
Starting with this build, users will no longer need to sign in to Widgets to use this feature. Instead, you will be able to see weather updates on the Taskbar, pin widgets from your apps, and access the feed without using a Microsoft account. This makes sense, since the point of Widgets is to drive users to Microsoft’s online services—Bing, MSN, and advertising—and the original implementation would lessen that activity.
There’s a new build of Media Player that isn’t actually tied to this build that adds folder-based browsing of videos. Anyone in the Dev channel should be able to get that. (Ditto for the Snipping Tool update that for some reason required a separate announcement.)
And … that’s about it. Obviously, there are lots of little fixes throughout, and lots of remaining known issues. It’s the Dev channel.
