Sony Brings PlayStation 4 Games to the PC

Posted July 7, 2017 | PlayStation 4 | PlayStation Now | Windows | Xbox

Less than a year after it delivered a version of its game streaming service on the PC, Sony has added PlayStation 4 games to PlayStation Now. Yes, you can now play PS4 games on your PC.

“As of today, the PlayStation Now library includes PS4 games,” Sony’s Brian Dunn writes in a post on the PlayStation Blog. “This lineup is just the start, as we’ll add more PS4 games in the coming months alongside our regular monthly content drops. On top of that, PS Now’s library has now ticked to over 500 games.”

PS Now may have over 500 titles, but the list of PS4 games available via the service is a bit short right now: There are just 20 PS4 games. That said, many of them—Killzone Shadow Fall, God of War 3 Remastered, Saints Row IV: Re-Elected, and others—are heavy-hitters.

As you may recall, Sony brought PlayStation Now to the PC last August At the time, the service only supported previous-generation PlayStation 3 games, but after Microsoft announced its competitive Xbox Game Pass service in February, Sony announced that it would, in turn, bring PS4 games to PS Now sometime in 2017.

PS Now and Xbox Game Pass don’t line up exactly: Both are subscription services, but PS Now, at $19.99 per month, is twice as expensive as Microsoft’s offering. And where PS Now streams games to Sony’s console and to PCs, Microsoft’s requires you to download games before they can be played. Naturally, those games can then be played offline, a feature PS Now lacks. Sony’s library of games is much bigger than Microsoft’s for now, too: Xbox Game Pass boasts just 100 titles, as it was only recently released.

If you haven’t tried PlayStation Now yet, you can get a 7-day free trial, and Sony is offering a $9.99 introductory offer for the first month (for new subscribers only). If you pay for a year up-front, the cost is just $99.99, a savings of about $140. These offers end September 22, 2017, Sony says. (You will also need a compatible Dual Shock controller.)

I may have to check this out.
