PC Game Pass Games Are Coming to Nvidia GeForce Now

Posted June 12, 2023 | Games | Gaming | NVIDIA GeForce NOW | PC Game Pass | PC gaming | Windows

Following its Xbox Games Showcase yesterday, Microsoft announced that it’s planning to bring PC Game Pass games to Nvidia’s GeForce Now cloud gaming service. Microsoft has already started making its PC games playable on GeForce Now for gamers who already purchased them on Steam or the Epic Games Store, but PC Game Pass subscribers will soon be able to do the same.

“Today we shared that Game Pass members will soon be able to stream select PC games from the library through Nvidia GeForce NOW. This will enable the PC Game Pass catalog to be played on any device that GeForce NOW streams to, like low spec PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, mobile devices, TVs, and more, and we’ll be rolling this out in the months ahead,” Microsoft said yesterday.

This announcement should be quite interesting for both Xbox and PC gamers. Nvidia GeForce Now is commonly recognized as the best cloud gaming service on the market as the $19.99 Ultimate tier supports gameplay at up to 4K resolution/120 FPS. In comparison, Xbox Cloud Gaming is restricted to 1080p at 60FPS, and the Xbox version of some games on the Game Pass catalog is limited to 30FPS.

That will be the case for the upcoming Starfield, which will play at 4K/30FPS on the Xbox Series X and 1440p/30FPS on the Series S. If Starfield does come to GeForce Now via PC Game Pass later this year, streaming the PC version of the game through GeForce Now may provide a better (smoother) experience than playing it on an Xbox Series X|S console or an old PC.

PC Game Pass, which is now available in 86 markets across the globe, is enjoying real momentum according to Microsoft. “We have reached new records for monthly active users and monthly active devices, and just last quarter we saw a 46% increase year over year in people playing PC games on Game Pass,” the company said yesterday. While Microsoft didn’t share an update on the 25 million Game Pass subscribers number it announced in January 2022, the company did say that its revenue from Game Pass subscriptions reached nearly $1 billion last quarter.
