Over 1 Million People are Already Playing State of Decay 2

Posted May 25, 2018 | Windows | Windows 10 | Xbox | Xbox One

It’s only been broadly available for two days, but over one million people are already playing State of Decay 2, Microsoft’s latest Xbox Play Anywhere title.

“We wanted to welcome and say thank you to the over one million fans playing State of Decay 2, helping break the million player mark,” Microsoft general manager Aaron Greenberg notes.

Granted, the game launched in Early Access for those who purchased the Ultimate Edition on May 18, which was a week ago. But in this new world of Microsoft finding other metrics for success, crossing the million player mark is notable on a video game platform that is being outsold, probably dramatically, by the market leader. (It’s hard to tell what the real difference is here, since this game works on Windows 10 PCs as well as the Xbox One.)

Greenberg provided a few other interesting bits of information about State of Decay 2:

  • Gamers have played the game for a combined six million hours so far.
  • Gamers have streamed over 3.5 million hours of gameplay across Mixer, Twitch and YouTube Gaming via over 41,000 unique broadcasts.
  • Gamers have killed over 675 million (virtual) zombies in State of Decay 2 They’ve thrown over 6 million firecrackers and fireworks, have eaten over 6 million bags of snacks, and have read over 2 million textbooks.
  • On averages, gamers survive for about three days in-game, with some going as long as over a month.

Greenberg also notes that gamers have uncovered a few “bugs and issues” and that Microsoft is working to resolve those quickly.
