OneDrive Is Getting a Fluent Design Refresh on the Web

Posted December 19, 2018 | Fluent Design | OneDrive | OneDrive Web | Windows

OneDrive is getting a visual refresh on the web after a long time. Microsoft announced recently that the company will be bringing some Fluent Design changes to OneDrive on the web, aligning the experience with other Office 365 products.

The new OneDrive for web will look identical at first glance, though Microsoft has changed a lot of tiny things throughout the app. There’s a new “recommended” section on the Files page that shows files that are relevant to you at a certain time, or files that require some sort of attention when you are collaborating with others, for example.

The “recent” files section has also been tweaked to keep you up-to-date with the latest changes. The redesigned page makes it easier to see the latest activity for a certain file, as well as the latest file status changes at a glance.

Microsoft is revamping the file card with some key changes that will make looking into your files much easier. It will now surface important information like how many minutes a Word document might take to read, and even fetch some of the key points from a document which is very clever.

Microsoft is introducing support for shared libraries from SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, etc. which will be really helpful if your company relies on something like Microsoft 365 or Office 365 for Businesses.

OneDrive’s new design will start rolling out on the web in the coming weeks. I don’t have any of the new changes yet, so it’s likely Microsoft is yet to start the official rollout.
