Microsoft’s Clipchamp video editor has dropped its three paid subscription tiers and now offers a single paid plan, called Essentials. The unpaid version, which is included in Windows 11 and supports 1080p video export, remains and is unchanged.

“Clipchamp’s pricing plans have changed,” the Clipchamp team explains. “A simpler way to pay for a premium Clipchamp account is here. We’re replacing our three paid subscription tiers with a new plan called the Essentials plan. This plan combines features of previous plans but at a lower price to empower you to create professional videos no matter your budget.”

The Essential plan costs $11.99 per month, which doesn’t seem particularly affordable to me. It doesn’t improve the app’s video export capabilities beyond 1080p, which I still find odd, but it does offer access to premium stock audio, images, and effects, premium filters and effects, cloud-based backup, and the ability to brand videos with logos, colors, and fonts. (Why Microsoft 365 Family and Personal accounts don’t just get this as part of their subscriptions is unclear.)

Existing Clipchamp subscribers will need to link their accounts to a Microsoft account before switching their plan to Essentials. You can learn more about Clipchamp’s free and paid offerings on the Clipchamp website.
