Apple Launches MLS Season Pass on its Apple TV app
Apple is launching today a new MLS Season Pass on its Apple TV app, which will provide subscribers access to all Major League Soccer matches and more when the 2023 MLS season kicks off on February 25. MLS Season Pass is priced at $14.99/month or $99 per season, and it supports Family Sharing with up to six family members.
Apple concluded a 10-year deal with the Major League Soccer to provide exclusive access to live MLS matches on its Apple TV app in more than 100 countries and regions. The MLS Season Pass will also let subscribers watch the entire Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs and Leagues Cup. Some matches of the 2023 MLS season will also be available for free on the Apple TV app.
“All matches will feature both English- and Spanish-language announcers, while matches involving Canadian teams will also offer commentary in French. Pregame shows and the postgame wrap-up will be available in English and Spanish,” Apple detailed in the press release.
The Apple TV app, which is available on Apple devices, smart TVs, streaming devices, set-top boxes, and game consoles, as well as on tv.apple.com, will also let MLS Season Pass subscribers personalize their experience. The app will let users select their favorite clubs to see upcoming matches automatically appear in the “Up Next” section of the Apple TV app. Each club will also have a dedicated page in the app where fans can see highlights, replays, and a schedule of all matches.
Apple has already been offering live Major League Baseball games on Friday nights to its Apple TV+ subscribers, and the company describes its 10-year partnership with the MLS as “a historic first for a major professional sports league.” Live sports content is indeed becoming an essential part of the competition between streaming platforms. Google will soon start airing NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube and YouTube TV, while Amazon is reportedly working on a standalone video app for sports content.
