Sonos Debuts New Arc Soundbar, Sub, and Five
Sonos on Wednesday announced three new and upgraded models to its smart speaker lineup, including a new product called Arc.
“Home has never played a more important role in our lives and we’ve always been about making the home more enjoyable with great sounding products and new experiences,” Sonos CEO Patrick Spence says in a prepared statement. “Our goal is to make any room you have a television a place you can easily enjoy all of the great streaming video and music that exists today. Arc illustrates our commitment to brilliant sound and premium design, and sets a new standard for soundbars.”
Sonos Arc replaces the Playbar as the most premium soundbar the firm offers. It adds Dolby Atmos sound, comes in white or black, and will ship on June 10 at $799. Sonos also sells a less expensive soundbar, the Beam, which retails for $399. Both support Dolby Audio 5.1 sound when combined with a subwoofer and two rear speakers.
On that note, Sonos has also updated its Sub subwoofer with a third-generation design that it says offers even better bass, faster performance, and more memory. It’s housed in the same form factor as its predecessor, still costs $699, and will also be made available on June 10.
Finally, Sonos also replaced its best speaker, the Sonos Play:5, with a new version now called Sonos Five. Like the new Sub, the Sonos Five delivers better performance and more memory, but in the same enclosure (from what I can tell) and with “the same great sound and acoustic architecture as Play:5.” There is one new design touch, however: For the first time, the Five is available with a white speaker grill; the unit is still offered in both black and white, and it will cost $499 when it becomes available on June 8.
