With the public release of its new Microsoft Edge browser coming up, Microsoft is opening up the new addons store to all developers.

The company announced on Monday that developers can now submit their extensions to the Microsoft Edge Addons store via the Partner Center Developer Dashboard. 

Microsoft says most Chromium extensions will work without any modifications in the new Microsoft Edge, and developers can also include Microsoft Edge-specific APIs on their extensions.

The company noted that the extension submission program is in a preview phase for now.

As it starts opening up the new extensions store for the new Edge’s extensions, Microsoft will stop accepting new submissions for extensions of the older Edge browser starting today. The company will still allow developers to submit updates to their existing extensions for the older Edge, however.

Developers also have the option to let Microsoft automatically migrate their extension for the older Edge to the new Microsoft Edge Addons store. And once Microsoft starts migrating users of the older Edge to the new Edge browsers on January 15, extensions for the older Edge browser that are available on the new Microsoft Edge Addons store will automatically be migrated to the new browser.
